It is said that a monastery was located there in medieval times, which was then destroyed during an earthquake and provided the foundations for the current Renaissance villa.
From the sixteenth century, La Palagina then served as a "buen retiro" (pleasant retreat ) for many noble Florentine families, including the Ricasoli and Corsini families.
It was Bettino Ricasoli (1809-1880), an Italian politician and skilled farmer who helped innovate Tuscan viticulture, who created the recipe for the modern Chianti Classico and promoted the Consortium. He did so precisely during the years he spent at La Palagina.
Villa La Palagina is located in this historical setting in the heart of Chianti.
